So this week see the Wolves take on early league leaders and so far unbeatable, Royston in what looked to be an excellent battle and what followed didn't dissapoint. Everyone was up for today and with certain players having to unfortunately play out of position due to absences in the squad, everyone knew it was going to be a tough day at the office and for those 11 Wolves on the pitch it was time to step up and make a name for themselves. The game kicked off and the Wolves came out the traps on fire, knocking the ball around well and not giving the opposition a second on the ball, however it was Royston who broke the early deadlock when the Wolves back 4 failed to get the offside trap right which left the Royston stiker one on one with Holman in which he cooly slotted into the back of the net. Holman no chance 1-0 Royston. The Wolves soon got back into the game and dominated for the rest of the half, a frustrated Royston were getting well out played at times but unfortunatley the Wolves just failed to show anything for there efforts. Attempts from Chard, Wells and then Fowler hitting the framework added to the Wolves frustration with still nothing to show. The ball did seem to cross the line twice on seperate instances but the referee and linesman on the day failed to give anything. It seemed lady luck just wasn't on the Warewolves side today. The seond half kicked off and the Wolves came out again looking sharpe and determined. However again following another defensive error at the back Royston beat the offside trap and tucked away again putting the score at 2 - 0. At this point most teams would of sank the heads and rolled over, but the Wolves were having none of it, and soon found themselves back in the game after a thunderous 25 yard strike from Mabrook rocketed in the top corner. Seconds later and the Wolves found themselves another goal down following some good play and pressure from Royston. 3-1. A late consualtion goal following some good pressure and a neat right footed finish from Jimmy Phillips brought the score back to 3-2 but the end of the match drew close and the Wolves just couldnt give anymore. The anguish and frustration on the players faces after the game said it all. The efforts and passion the Wolves showed today was emmence and I hope this continues onto next week. Man of the match today, Nicky Coate. I dont think there was a blade of grass untouched by him today, he was everywhere and didnt stop running for 90 minutes.
